About Engineering for Kids 

Our curriculum has been designed to bring science, technology, engineering, art and math (S.T.E.A.M), to kids ages 4.5 to 14, in a fun, engaging, and challenging way. Our mobile services include classes, camps, clubs, and birthday parties. Engineering is, after all, one of the fastest growing industries in the world!

All participants throughout the classes will learn about the exciting topics that are available in many engineering fields. This will include several specific branches of engineering with an introduction to computer coding. They will also learn how to implement the engineering design process, as well as learn the important 21st century skills such as teamwork, creative problem solving, and oral presentation.Engineering for Kids of Greater Richmond has an exciting age-appropriate hands-on program that fosters every child’s natural curiosity!

Get ready to have the winter break! Experience the most hands-on, educational and fun program in Richmond! 

Camp Activity Descriptions

Junior Engineering and Robotics
We have opened up this class for several weeks of fun, creativity, and of course, engineering! Students will invent new machines and explore creative design solutions for several projects using the engineering design process. Students will also discover the many uses of motors and sensors as they learn about building and coding their own Lego® WeDo robotics by using our computers to program their completed models. Discover how a wind-up toy works, design tools that aid in travel and program a robot for an airplane rescue as part of this engaging engineering experience.


Jr. Scratch/Makey Makey™: Musical Adventures
Do you dance around and play the air drum solo? In Musical Adventures with Scratch and Makey Makey™, we are going to explore how different sounds are created and we will create our own interpretations of common musical instruments like drums, piano, guitar, and even a recorder, and we will create our very own dancing program, all through the use of Makey Makey™ and Scratch to bring our music to life! The last day will end with a bang, or at least a really great mini concert from all of our students!


Civil Engineering: Building Cities
During our Civil Engineering program, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a Truss bridge designed to withstand the greatest force. They examine several different types of bridge designs and discover how the forces of tension, compression, bending, torsion, and shear are distributed throughout their structures.

How Amusing Week / Engineering Sampler

Ah, the thrill of an amusement park…zipping around on race cars, zooming through the loops of a rollercoaster and enjoying a cold, refreshing ice cream treat at the end of a hot, sticky day. Can’t get better than that! Students will divide into competitive theme park teams. They will challenge other teams in marine engineering, mechanical engineering, and chemical engineering related contests with the goal of creating the most fantastic and thrilling theme park experience!


Junior Aerospace Engineering

Taking to the Skies. The Junior Aerospace Engineering program introduces our youngest engineers to fundamental concepts of aircraft and spacecraft design. Through open and focused exploration, students explore and construct airplanes, rockets, hot air balloons, and more.
